Coonamble Angus is one of Western Australia is leading Angus studs based on the south coast near Albany. One prominent bull that’s well-known is Coonamble Hector WDC They have been a consistent industry leader in producing t balanced bulls with the rear end thickness. Also there have been a number of outstanding matriarch’s that we have been lucky enough to secure embryo eggs. In 2020 we implanted some 30 eggs and have been very pleased with the results to date.
In 2018 we purchase embryos from Aryvale. We had been impressed with calves from Aryvale General (AI) in our herd especially regarding calving ease and the all round balance ABI Values. Aryvale Kimberly K19 from Eagle Hawk Jedda and Docklands is an outstanding dam and has been matched with Kodak and EF Compliment. Along with 2 other K Dams with high Indexes and excellent balance in their numbers. There will be an excellent infusion of their breeding history into our herd in the future
Lindsay and Alison Wolrige, whose Angus stud is also located also in Vasse,, have a collection of outstanding genetics with a strong emphasis on EBV measures. Their star bull Esslemont Lotto (WWEL3), was sold to eastern states interests, and has been a prolific sire since.. A combination of mature cows and first calver’s were purchased from Esselmont Angus and this has significantly raised the bar regarding EBV’s for their expected progeny and our herd. WWEL115, WWEH17 and WWEN9 are indicative of our direction.
Bruce Newport has been very helpful in advice regarding herd improvement. A selection of embryo’s were purchased that will infuse further positive traits into the stud herd in the ET program in April 2017. In the 2018 ET program Donor dams from the Regent Line have been used with Prophet with the goal of excellent growth +59 200 day and positive fats.
In 2017, Trafalgar Angus purchased embryos from David Murray’s Kilburnie Angus in New South Wales. His eye-catching bull Murray El Grando, at the time was one of the highest ABI Bulls at 173. The Wave females genetics comes from the Te Mania Queanbeyan and the other Murray Grando from his Regent line. We landed ,two heifers in 2019 who will potentially be used ion our ET program in 2022.
Our first bull on settling into Busselton was from the Diamond Tree stud. He was a powerful bull but unfortunately injured himself in late 2015. In their dispersal sale in October 2016, we paid the top price for Diamond Tree Bartel WGK K83. She has turned out to be a wonderful cow and a great producer of eggs in our ET program. Her docility is amazing to the point, a rattle of a gate chain and and one call – we get an immediate response from her as she leads the herd to where we are waiting. No bikes., dogs or yelling !!
